When you have income from work, all of our public benefits agencies, whether it's Medicaid, Social Security, or other agencies, treat or work income very favorably because they want persons with disabilities to be able to get out and live their best life. The statement: "I can't work because I won't be able to keep getting social security benefits" is simply not true. Social Security is going to support those work efforts because work is so important to the psyche and for one's life plan. I always tell people that first and foremost, I am a mother of two daughters, one of whom passed away from mitochondrial disease in 2013. This deep, personal understanding of special needs fuels my passion for quality special needs planning and advocacy. In addition, I have over twenty years of experience as an attorney and advocate in the areas of Special Needs, Elder Law, and Estate Planning. I oversee two organizations in my home state of Massachusetts, but work with families nationwide and have extensive experience with federal services.
